The 2012 International Workshop on Several Complex Variables and Complex Geometry (SCVCG) was held at the Institute of Mathematics, Academia Sinica, Taipei, on July 9-13, 2012. The fact that a large conference in SCVCG had not been held in Taiwan was the motivating reason for organizing such a workshop. In fact, this idea turned out to spawn a very successful workshop. There were 97 participants including 32 invited speakers, among whom 34 people were from outside Taiwan.

Four mini-courses were presented during July 2-5 before the workshop, aiming at introducing some specific topics in detail. The topics are "An introduction to subriemannian geometry" by Ovidiu Calin, "Bergman kernel asymptotics and Demailly's holomorphic Morse inequalities" by Chin-Yu Hsiao, "Regularity in some involutive structure problems" by Xianghong Gong, and "Singular integral techniques in several complex variables" by Loredana Lanzani. Special thanks to them for preparing such mini-courses.

Encouraged by the high level of lectures and stimulating discussions, we decided to publish some proceedings. The diversity of the topics in the papers of the proceedings (which are published in two issues of the Bulletin) is a reflection of many inspiring lectures which touched various research directions of SCVCG.

We would like to thank all the speakers for their enlightening lectures. It must be stressed that the mini-courses and the workshop could not have been realized without the financial support of the National Science Foundation of United States and the Academia Sinica of Taiwan. We also thank all the participants to the 2012 International Workshop on SCVCG and those who have contributed to this special issue and the next one to be published in September. Last but not least, we would like to thank Li-Wu Chen who was indispensable in the preparation and organization of the mini-courses and conference.
