Compared with simple random walk, random walk in random environment (RWRE)
exhibits a lot of surprising phenomena. For example, letting be a RWRE,
it is possible that , but . That is, RWRE may
run to infinity with a sub-linear speed. This phenomenon will never happen to
simple random walks at any circumstance, since for simple random walk ,
if and only if for some constant .
In this talk, besides a short review of the history of RWRE, we will also introduce some results we have achieved over the past years. The talk may involve some basic knowledge of classical random walks and branching processes.
