Abstract: In this talk, we will briefly introduce a useful dynamics tool ``thermodynamic formalism''. On top of that, we will survey several interesting applications of thermodynamic formalism to geometry, especially to Teichm├╝ller theory. We will discuss Thurston's intersection number and related (entropy) rigidly phenomenon. We will also talk similar rigidity results for immersed surfaces in hyperbolic 3-manifolds. If time permits, we will also discuss a dynamical point of view of the Weil-Petersson metric on Teichm├╝ller space.
