Abstract: An overview of finite difference discretisation for incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is discussed. The fundamental numerical framework considered here is based on the finite difference schemes implemented on a Cartesian mesh. In conjunction with the projection method to enforce the divergence-free constraint, this specific numerical configuration possesses simplicity, versatility and efficiency, while offering a comparable accuracy for the direct numerical simulation of incompressible fluid flows.
