The admissibility of a shock wave for hyperbolic conservation laws is studied from the point of view of entropy production. We will start with the Oleinik entropy condition for scalar conservation laws. Oleinik entropy condition has been obtained by the entropy inequality criterion when all entropy pairs are used. It has also been derived from the zero dissipation criterion. We will show that the Oleinik entropy condition can be obtained from the entropy production criterion when only one, the physical entropy pair, is used. We will then consider the Euler equations for compressible media. Future possibilities will also be explored.
