Title: The comparison of two constructions of the refined analytic torsion on compact manifolds with boundary

Abstract: The refined analytic torsion on compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary has been discussed by B. Vertman and by Yoonweon Lee and myself, but these two constructions are completely different. In this talk I will first review the standard construction of analytic torsion, then I will introduce a pair of boundary conditions for the odd signature operator and use them to define our refined analytic torsion on manifolds with boundary. In the end I will compare our construction with Vertman's by using the deformation method of Bruning-Lesch, when the odd signature operator comes from a Hermitian flat connection and all de Rham cohomologies vanish.
