| Abstract | In this survey, we discuss the dead-core rates for a family of parabolic equations with strong absorption. This includes the standard heat equation, fast diffusion equation and slow diffusion equation. It is surprising that, even in the case of one space dimension, the dead-core rate can be either self-similar or non-self-similar. Some open problems are also given.
