Stochastic Formulation for the Initial-Boundary Value Problems of the Boltzmann Equation

  • Abstract : In this talk, we consider the planar wave solution of the Boltzmann equation in a slab with the diffuse boundary conditions at the endpoints. I will introduce a probabilistic approach for the study of the equilibrating mechanism in a rarefied gas. For this, I will firstly introduce a stochastic process approach for treating the diffuse boundary condition. Then we will study the interaction between the diffuse boundary and the collision operator which work together to enhance the rate at which rarefied gas equilibrates.
