Abstract: We survey combinatorial results including the Macdonald positivity conjecture, the n !  and (n +1) ^{n - 1}  conjectures which relate Macdonald polynomials to certain doubly-graded modules over the symmetric groups. These modules provide deep connections to Hilbert schemes as well as q-analogs of Catalan numbers and parking functions.
