Markov Traces and Character Sheaves

  • Abstract : We follow a paper of Webster and Williamson where they first give a geometric construction using equivariant \ell-adic sheaves on a simple algebraic group G, of a trace function on the Hecke algebra of a Weyl group generalizing the Jones-Ocneanu(Markov) trace on the type A Hecke algebra. Then, using properties of (unipotent) character sheaves, they show for all types that their geometric trace equals Gomi's trace, which is defined using Lusztig's Fourier transform between unipotent characters and almost characters for the finite group of lie type G^F.
