- Abstract : It is well-known that D-modules techniques have been adopted to drive hypergeometric type identities. We show that it is also possible to use D-modules to describe classical special functions in general. Different manifestations of the “D” will then enable one to identify and perhaps to discover discrete analogues of classical special functions. Examples will be constructed to illustrate this idea.
