Initial layer for the Boltzmann equation II

  • Abstract : In this talk, we explore the initial layer of the Boltzmann equation, which exhibits singular behavior in the regime of small mean free path. A main feature of this layer is the propagation of discontinuities within the solution. To analyze this phenomenon, we construct an explicit form of the Green's function and employ it to build the corresponding solution of the Boltzmann equation.
    The strongly quantitative structure of the Green's function allows us to analyze the commutator of the nonlinear collision operators and the transport operator for the precise study of the propagation of discontinuities. Through this analysis, we obtain the explicit form and the kinetic nature of the propagation of discontinuities, as well as the emergence of fluid-like waves in the initial layer.
    The explicit construction of the solution in the initial layer bridges the Boltzmann equation to the hydrodynamics.
