Abstract : We initiate the study of local behaviour of integral points that are close to a fixed point on a nice projective variety, guided by a conjecture of D. McKinnon on rational approximation by rational points. We conjecture that the best approximations should be located on either $A^1$ or $G_m$-curves. This is based on joint work with F. Wilsch (Göttingen).
