Title : Geometrization of extra dimensions
Abstract : The classification of Calabi-Yau 3-folds is a fundamental open problem in modern geometry. These complex spaces serve as the "extra" dimensions predicted by superstring theory, and their vast variety leads to a massive landscape of possible models for our universe. In this talk, I will explain the geometrization of these extra dimensions in accessible terms. I will then outline a mathematical approach to this classification problem. By studying how certain fundamental interactions become singular, we can use higher-dimensional "geometric surgeries" to smoothly transition between different models, revealing a unified geometric structure that connects them.
