2-categorical Chern character and some applications

  • Abstract : The chern character, viewed in a slightly non-standard way, takes perfect complexes on a stack to functions on its loop stack. The two categorical version takes perfect sheaves of categories on a stack to sheaves on its loop stack. I will give an introduction to some of the higher category theory and sheaf theory on which such definitions depend, and try to motivate it with some examples. Finally I'll discuss some applications to novel non-commutative invariants of elliptic cohomological nature, which is the subject of ongoing joint work with Sibilla, Tomasini and Scherotzke.
