Geometric measure theory and harmonic analysis via the work of Hong Wang

  • Abstract : I will give an overview and explain some nice ideas behind a deep body of work that Hong Wang had done. Along the way I'll share some personal reflections about what made these discoveries remarkable. Highlights include her resolution of the 3 dimensional Kakeya conjecture (with Josh Zahl), the Furstenberg set conjecture in 2 dimensions (with Kevin Ren), and the local smoothing conjecture for the wave equation (with Larry Guth and Ruixiang Zhang). I'll make an effort to make the ideas accessible to a broad audience.
